Developing local potential-based entrepreneurship activities optimally through community empowerment
Batu Hijau, West Sumbawa, November 16, 2018 - PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("Amman Mineral") has been introducing a pattern of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) approaches for two years from philanthropy that only focuses on donations and volunteerism to creating shared value programs (CSV). This innovation is aimed at helping build the local economy towards a community that has sustainable economic independence. The program is implemented through various entrepreneurship development activities based on local potential and community empowerment.
For the past two years of its implementation, the Amman Mineral Community Development Program (PPM) has developed 15 types of business commodities ranging from agribusiness such as layer (chicken) farming, trigona bee farming, catfish farming, vanamei shrimp and seaweed cultivation to the empowerment of Micro and Small Enterprises (MSEs) such as palm sugar, corn noodles, lala oil and revitalization of Jelenga Beach as a tourist destination. To fulfill the capital requirements of small businesses, non-bank financial institutions have also been developed in the form of cooperatives. Until now the Amman Mineral’s PPM has been implemented in 20 villages and engaged 22 Collective Business Groups (KUB) with a total number of beneficiaries of approximately 304 Family Heads (KK) in the Batu Hijau Mine and its surrounding areas.
In the meantime, to develop and improve the human resources capacity of the communities around the mine, PTAMNT has also partnered with BLK KSB, BBPLK Bandung and Bekasi and regional training providers to conduct various training programs such as driving training, welding training, security training and Information Technology (IT) training. The number of the community members involved in these training programs people was 49 persons.
Anita Avianty, Head of Corporate Communications of PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara said, "We express our deep appreciation and gratitude to our stakeholders including the local governments who always provide support and direction for the community development programs run by Amman Mineral. So many local resources have great potential to be developed to empower the community economy. However, public awareness of the existing economic potential is a determining factor for success in any community development program. "We hope that these programs will bring considerable benefits to the community and help accelerate the economic development of West Sumbawa, "Anita added.
To ensure that the programs are run successfully, Amman Mineral also provides a guidance program in the form of training and mentoring.
