West Sumbawa, May 5, 2020 - The World Health Organization (WHO) has officially declared the outbreak of COVID-19 a pandemic, after the disease spread to more than 100 countries and led to tens of thousands of cases within a few months. On 2nd March, 2020, Indonesia confirmed two COVID-19 cases in its territory and within two months, the virus has multiplied staggeringly and spread across the archipelago.
All stakeholders in the country, especially the government has been working relentlessly to flatten the curve. During this challenging time, the pandemic hits all industries equally, including mining. However, as a company that is committed to support the growth of national and local economy, it is our responsibility to put the best effort to fight against COVID-19, while maintaining the continuity of our operations.
Amman Mineral has taken numerous preventive actions which are aligned with the directives from government . In order to ensure the health and safety of our employees, we are limiting their travels to enter or exit Batu Hijau site. We are also strengthening medical screening procedure at entrance gates, implementing the mandatory use of masks during activities, closing public facilities at townsite, as well as maintaining 1.5 meter physical distance. Disinfecting properties and facilities is also part of our effort, as an addition to giving information sessions on healthy & hygienic lifestyle.
Our effort to prevent COVID-19 goes beyond our Batu Hijau gates. We would also like to help the communities surrounding Batu Hijau to remain safe and healthy. More than 50% of Amman Mineral’s employees are from West Sumbawa; hence, we consider ourselves as a part of the community. It is highly important that we collaborate with the Government to tackle this challenging situation.
Therefore, Amman Mineral has become a part of COVID-19 Task Force in West Sumbawa Regency, where we support the Government to identify and mobilize the needs of local communities during this pandemic. Based on the identification, we donate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), vitamins, thermometer, and other necessities to local clinics. We are also involved in educating the community about the preventive measures against COVID-19.
This time is surely difficult for all of us. However, with patience and prayers, we need to believe that together we will overcome this hardship and emerge stronger than ever.
