Commemorating World Environment Day, Amman Mineral Cultivates Environmental Awareness Around the Batu Hijau Mine

West Sumbawa, August 12, 2019 - As the culmination of the commemoration of World Environment Day, the Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("Amman Mineral") held a Clean Up Day event that involved communities around the Batu Hijau mine, West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara. Besides being attended by Amman Mineral and Alliance employees, the event which was held on Friday (9/8) was also followed by students from elementary, middle, high school / vocational school to PKK groups and housewives in Maluk District. Clean Up Day is one of a series of programs implemented by the company in an effort to instill awareness to maintain and foster a sense of environmental love.

Air pollution and rubbish, especially plastic waste, are the most serious environmental problems we face today, including in Indonesia which is also the world's largest producer of plastic waste. It's time we all reduce the use of disposable plastic items. "Anita added," A clean, healthy and beautiful environment is everyone's dream, but unfortunately until now there is still low public awareness of the importance of protecting the environment, one of which is by suppressing the use of plastic packaging disposable. The use of disposable plastic goods makes the earth's burden heavier because plastic that is discharged into the environment cannot be decomposed quickly by nature. Through the campaign and training on waste management provided, we hope to continue to be transmitted to other colleagues or families."

The training included composting, nursery and training to create recycled waste into valuable products. The company also held an exhibition and bazaar of environmentally friendly products by presenting AVANI company from Bali, a provider of environmentally friendly material products in the form of crackle bags, cups, pipettes, and food packaging made from cassava, bagasse, corn and so on. Various products from recycled waste, various foods without plastic packaging, trigona honey from reclamation forest cultivation were also displayed in the exhibition.

Monitoring, evaluation and coaching for participating schools conducted by Amman Mineral as an effort to improve the quality of the environment of the School, especially the waste management program in schools, shows encouraging results because it has been proven to reduce the production of plastic waste. Schools that are considered successful and get the highest grades will be given assistance from the company's waste management facilities.

As the culmination of the Clean Up Day program the company held a casual walk while picking up plastic trash around the route it was traveling on. Jalan Santai was attended by more than 1000 participants, including employees, business partners, student groups, communities and the district government of Maluk. The leisurely walk that starts from the Benete parking lot and ends at Maluk Beach manages to collect about 15m cubic plastic waste.
