Sumbawa Barat, November 5, 2019 - Nine students of Grades 8 and 9 from Buin Batu School, West Sumbawa, West Nusa Tenggara, will represent Indonesia in the Final World Scholar’s Cup - Tournament of Champions event held at Yale University, USA. They will compete in the category of Art and Science from November 8 to 13, 2019. Previously, they successfully competed at the regional level in Bali and performed well at the Asia level in Manila, participated in by around 50,000 participants in September 2019.
Buin Batu School is located at townsite of Batu Hijau mine site and the students there are children of the employees of Amman Mineral and its business partners. The school is managed by Yayasan Pendidikan Buin Batu Sumbawa using the International Baccalaureate (IB) curriculum and also adopts the national curriculum for its primary school up to senior high school. Currently 219 students study at Buin Batu School.
“We are proud of the achievements the students have made at international level. We believe that by taking part in this international level competition, the students will be motivated to improve their achievements and make a good reputation for Indonesia in other international competitions,” said Bai Indayani, Superintendent Media Relations & Special Projects Amman Mineral.
In this year, Amman Mineral also initiated a material reinforcement and standard of competence training session for teachers of SMA/MA and SMK in 3 subdistricts around the mine area. This is part of the effort to improve the competitiveness level of students around the Batu Hijau mine area in facing the Computer-Based National Exam and prepare them to enter reputable universities. During the training session, the company invited 12 experts in the field of education from an Indonesian reputable learning center as resources persons.
