West Sumbawa, August 17, 2019 - Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("Amman Mineral") employees performed a red and white flag raising ceremony underwater at Benete Bay, West Sumbawa. This activity was part of a series of activities in commemoration of the 74th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia at the Batu Hijau Mine Project area. On the same occasion, divers under the Sumbawa Diving Club consisting of Amman Mineral employees and business partners also monitored the artificial coral reefs that Amman Minerals had placed in Benete Bay.
"Through this underwater flag raising activity, we want to show the public the beauty and richness of the sea in Indonesia that we must always safeguard and preserve, including a variety of marine biota in it," said Anita Avianty, Head of Corporate Communications of Amman Mineral. Anita added that the Benete Bay which is a diving site is an area where Amman Mineral places artificial coral reefs as an effort to develop a marine conservation program. "Around the Benete Waters there is a dedicated shipping port and a public port serving both employees and public passengers. The placement of artificial coral reefs in the waters is expected to help preserve coral reefs existing in the water territory, "said Anita.
Until now, Amman Mineral has placed more than 2,000 artificial coral reefs spread in several underwater sites in West Sumbawa. As many as 1,488 artificial coral reefs have been placed in Benete waters, with the rest being placed at Maluk Bay, Lawar Bay, and Gili Kenawa.
