West Sumbawa, August 17, 2019 - Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara ("Amman Mineral") employees hold a Indonesian flag raising ceremony under the sea in the waters of Benete Bay, West Sumbawa. This activity is a series of activities commemorating the 74th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia in the Batu Hijau Mine project area. On the same occasion, divers who joined the Sumbawa Diving Club and consisted of Amman Mineral employees and business partners also monitored the artificial coral reefs that Amman Minerals had placed in Benete Bay.
"Through this flag raising activity under the sea we want to show how Indonesia has the beauty and richness of the sea that we must always guard and preserve, including a variety of marine life in it," said Anita Avianty, Head of Corporate Communications at Amman Mineral. Anita added that the Benete Bay which is a dive site is an area where the Amman Mineral places artificial coral reefs as an effort to conduct a marine conservation program. "Around the Benete Waters there are special shipping ports and public ports that serve both employees and public passengers. in the waters it is expected to help the preservation of coral reefs in the territorial waters, "said Anita.
Until now, Amman Mineral has placed more than 2,000 artificial coral reefs scattered in several waters in West Sumbawa. As many as 1,488 artificial coral reefs have been placed in Benete waters, while the rest are distributed in Maluk Bay, Lawar Bay, and Gili Kenawa. Monitoring results show that artificial coral reefs have been used as spawning, attaching marine organisms, as well as shelter and foraging for fish species.
In addition to the flag raising ceremony under the sea, Amman Mineral also held a flag ceremony at the Batu Hijau Townsite soccer field. The ceremony was led by the Director General of Mineral and Coal, Ir. Bambang Gatot Ariyono, M.M who wore a Sumbawa traditional broom and cloth. The ceremony was also attended by Amman Mineral employees and partners who wore traditional clothes from various regions in Indonesia.
Various competitions have also been held to add to the excitement of the 74th Indonesian Independence Day commemoration, such as blood donations, fun runs, and various sports competitions participated by employees and business partners of Amman Mineral.
