Company’s commitment to develop existing resources optimally and creating strong, independent and sustainable local economy
West Sumbawa, March 8, 2018 - Today 45 seaweed farmers assisted by PT Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara (AMNT) have gathered in a large harvest and conducted their first export to China. Regent of West Sumbawa Regency (KSB), Dr. Ir. Musyafirin, MM., participated in the harvest and officially released the first seaweed export centered in Sagena Village, Poto Tano District, West Sumbawa Regency (KSB), West Nusa Tenggara.
The seaweed harvest was conducted in three locations in KSB namely Sagena Village, Labu Beru Village and Kertasari Village. The total seaweed harvested reaches 70 wet tons and a total of 15 dry tons will be exported, seven tons of which come from the AMNT-assisted farmers.
The development of seaweed cultivation in this area can not be separated from the assistance provided by the AMNT team starting from the provision of training on business development strategy, access to technical information on cultivation, access to capital including market access. In addition to the potential income for farmers, seaweed cultivation activities can absorb a lot of workers starting from the preparation of seaweed planting, maintenance, harvesting and the drying process. The average number of workers absorbed in this program ranges from 200 to 250 people.
"This is an extraordinary achievement since one of the AMNT community development programs has only been running for less than 6 months and it has successfully made its first export. This program is also a concrete realization of the company's commitment to optimally develop resources available to create a strong, independent and sustainable local economy, "said Syarafudin Jarot, AMNT’s Senior Social Responsibility Manager.
The new paradigm of AMNT's Community Development Program (CDP) is more focused on sustainable business by optimizing the utilization of resources available in West Sumbawa, empowerment and capacity building, support for government programs, and integration-collaboration. "Under the new paradigm, we are expected to be able to help accelerate development in KSB," explained Jarot.
The Regent of KSB, in his speech, expressed his high appreciation to AMNT for helping and synergizing with the local government to improve the welfare of the community by developing local economy and open more job opportunities for the community.
"I hope that a concrete and sustainable cooperation between the government and Amman Mineral Nusa Tenggara through various community development programs can accelerate the economic growth of the community in West Sumbawa towards the creation of community self-reliance and welfare," said Musyafirin.
In addition to seaweed cultivation, some community business development programs have also been in progress such as the processing of palm sugar, honey bee cultivation, non-pedigreed, layer, and broiler chicken farming, and catfish farming. At the beginning, the whole program is targeted to involve about 113 families in West Sumbawa. This program is expected to give an average income of Rp 2.2 million per family every month.
Furthermore, some other programs are also in the final preparation stages to be implemented, such as goat farming, corn-processed and lala oil production, vanamei shrimp farming, coffee processing, and grouper integrated farming.
